Throughout most of my life, if you were to come looking for me on a Saturday night, you would find me at home curled up with a book. In a bad year I read about 60 books, and in a good one I read 100. I truly believe humanity’s greatest technological advance was the moment we learned to use marks on paper (or stone or vellum or parchment) to carry information across time and to all corners of the world. Those marks on paper can bring you into the mind of a person you have never met. Books are the closest thing to magic I can imagine.
