I like swearing. It’s hardly a secret. Even my mother-in-law knows me as someone who swears, since I accidentally let slip a not-so-choice expletive or two in her presence. I love the way a well-timed curse word can make what your saying more powerful, more sincere, or sometimes, just more downright cool (I definitely lack cool in real life, so I need all the help I can get). As I was starting my series of birds, I had no idea how to make it stand out, until, out of the blue, this idea of a robin popped into my brain. Suddenly, I thought that there could be nothing more hilarious that a robin, wide eyed and swearing.

Posting this series was also the first time I felt particularly vulnerable posting what I’d created. Swearing is controversial. It involves taking a stand of sorts, and expecting that some people are just not going to like it. It felt like a real step for me as an illustrator.
